履歷概要 <只提供英文版本>
Dr Benjamin Hon Kei Yip leverages real-world data (RWD) to develop and apply advanced genetic epidemiological models, uncovering the genetic and environmental foundations of various diseases. A hallmark of his research is constructing diverse family pedigrees using Nordic population registries to map relationships and examine how genetics and environment shape disease risk. This approach allowed him to resolve a longstanding psychiatric debate by demonstrating strong genetic overlap between schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Building on this, he has led large-scale studies of autism spectrum disorder (ASD), confirming its high heritability. In groundbreaking work, Dr Yip was the first to show ASD heritability is about 10% higher in males than females, revealing new genetic insight into sex differences in prevalence.
Beyond his primary research, Dr Yip is a leader in clinical research. As principal biostatistician for over 20 trials, he has directed study design, analysis, and cost-effectiveness evaluations, often integrating trial data with RWD. His expertise in biostatistics and health economics underpins influential studies, including evaluating the Kwai Tsing District Health Centre and projecting Macao’s nurse workforce. Currently, he applies emulated trial designs to assess dementia risk linked to dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitors in type 2 diabetes using healthcare RWD.
Dr Yip is dedicated to nurturing future researchers, having supervised 12 PhD graduates and currently guiding three students. Widely recognised, he has published in The Lancet, JAMA Psychiatry, Biological Psychiatry, Molecular Psychiatry, and Value in Health. Ranked among the top 2% of the world’s most cited scientists, he serves as Principal or Co-Principal Investigator on 38 competitive grants.
