The Nephrology Team at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Prince of Wales Hospital, boasts a solid foundation and outstanding performance in medical care, teaching, research, and management. In terms of clinical services, the department provides comprehensive kidney disease diagnosis and treatment services, including general nephrology, peritoneal dialysis, hemodialysis, kidney transplantation, urology, and vascular surgery, serving over 15,000 patients annually. The team boasts a strong professional team, including two professors from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, three consultants, four associate consultants, four specialists and residents, and over 50 nursing and support staff. In terms of research, the department has an international influence in the fields of peritoneal dialysis and IgA nephropathy, having published over 500 academic papers in authoritative international medical journals such as the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology, Kidney International, and Annals of Internal Medicine. Professor CC Szeto was awarded the First Prize of the 2016 National Science and Technology Progress Award (Traditional Chinese Medicine and Chinese Materia Medica) for his outstanding contributions to the “research and application of integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine syndrome differentiation and treatment principles and key diagnostic and treatment technologies for IgA nephropathy.” In 2024, he was awarded the Dr. Dimitrios G. Oreopoulos Award by the Canadian Society of Nephrology, recognizing his international leadership in peritoneal dialysis.
