Dr. Joey Wing-yan Chan is an Associate Professor (Clinical) in the Department of Psychiatry at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). Dr. Chan obtained her MBChB from CUHK in 2006, followed by fellowships from the Hong Kong College of Psychiatrists and the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine in 2013.

Dr. Chan’s research interests focus on sleep and circadian rhythms, particularly their impact on neuropsychiatric disorders. Her research is characterized by in-depth sleep and circadian measurements, including actigraphy, melatonin assessment, chromatic pupillometry, and polysomnography. Her publications span a range of sleep disorders, including insomnia, hypersomnolence, parasomnia, and their interface with affective disorders and neurodegeneration. She has made significant contributions to the clinical applications of chronotherapeutic treatments and has been serving as the principal investigator for several randomized controlled trials of non-pharmacological treatments in neuropsychiatric disorders. In recognition of her clinical and academic work, she received the Distinguished Young Fellow award from the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine in 2022.

In addition to her academic achievements, Dr. Chan is actively involved in several professional societies. She is the current president of the Hong Kong Society of Sleep Medicine. She also serves on the Task Force on Chronobiology and Chronotherapy for the International Society of Bipolar Disorder and is a member of the Asian Society of Sleep Medicine’s subcommittees focused on curriculum design and sleep medicine training.
