Research Area
Prof. Wong’s research interests include techniques in improving outcomes of complex aortic procedures, screening for thoracic aortic aneurysm, genetic basis of aortic pathology and hybrid endovascular intervention for cardiovascular diseases. He contributed over 170 publications in peer-reviewed journals and 7 book chapters. He was awarded HMRF in 2023 as Principal Investigator for AI-powered Multimodality approach to screen and diagnose Thoracic Aortic Aneurysm and Dissection.
Professional Profile
Prof Randolph Hung-leung Wong received his medical degree (MBChB) from The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) in 2000. He completed his higher surgical training in cardiothoracic surgery and obtained FRCSEd (CTh) in 2008, then became a Fellow of The College of Surgeons of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine in 2009.
Specializing in complex open aortic surgery, hybrid thoracic aortic intervention, and minimally invasive cardiothoracic and vascular procedures, Prof Wong has led award-winning teams, including the NTEC Aortic Multidisciplinary Team (2018) and HA Outstanding Coronary Revascularization Team (2023).
He currently serves as the Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery at CUHK and an Honorary Consultant for the Hospital Authority. Additionally, he is the Cluster Service Team Head for the New Territories East Cluster at the Hospital Authority. He holds the position of Secretary of the Cardiothoracic Surgery Board of Hong Kong and serves as a Councillor for the College of Surgeons of Hong Kong. He is also and a member and fellow of multiple international medical societies, including American College of Chest Physician, European Association of Cardio-Thoracic Society and member of American Heart Association, Society of Thoracic Surgeons, International Society of Minimally Invasive Cardiothoracic Surgery and Asian Society for Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery.
