Professional Profile

Elaine Chow received her medical training in UK and completed her PhD on cardiovascular effects of hypoglycaemia in type 2 diabetes at the University of Sheffield in 2015. She since joined the Chinese University of Hong Kong, where she helped set up glucose clamp and continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) sensor evaluation studies at the Phase 1 Clinical Trial Centre. She has secured multiple competitive grants on early phase drug/device evaluation via HMRF, RGC, ITF and industry. She currently leads a number of investigator-initiated clinical studies in prediabetes, diabetes and advanced chronic kidney disease. She has been Principal Investigator or co-investigator for over 150 Phase 1 to 4 studies relating to cardiometabolic drugs. She has published over 150 peer-reviewed articles with over 30 as first/corresponding author, including articles in Diabetes Care, Diabetes, Nature Reviews Endocrinology, Nature Metabolism and EClinical Medicine. She has also received several awards, including the Hong Kong College of Physicians Richard Yu Lecture 2022 and Women’s Interprofessional Network of the American Diabetes Association abstract award in 2022. In addition to teaching and research, she is Associate Editor for Diabetes Research and Clinical Practice and editorial board member for several journals. She serves advisory roles for the Hospital Authority (HA) on drug selection and utilisation.
